IFRC Park - Latest news and project report

Writer: urbzurbz

This report introduces the IFRC Park project, a 130,000 m² space that embodies the values of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It is open to all: staff, neighbors, partner organizations and the local community, whether to participate in the design process or to enjoy the park once completed.

This project combines innovative participatory processes with state-of-the-art landscaping and botanical work to create a publicly accessible park embodying the IFRC's humanitarian values. Conceived as a local action to mitigate climate change and engage the public, the park aims to inspire national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies worldwide.

The project has several key objectives:

  • strengthen the ecosystem and biodiversity;

  • contribute to the life of the neighbourhood and strengthen the ties between the IFRC and its neighbors;

  • preserve the memory of the public site through the restoration of heritage elements;

  • strengthen the presence of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement in Geneva.

Located in a highly diverse neighborhood, the park will offer outdoor and indoor spaces accessible to all, promoting social integration and community life. The landscaping, developed by collectif urbz and dGPa, has been designed to meet the needs of residents and future users.

The IFRC park integrates different elements, such as forest, landscape, fruit trees and the neighbourhood house, to create a welcoming space for both regulars and passers-by, allowing them to relax and reconnect with nature.

The timetable is also published, to give a better understanding of the different stages of the project and its various players: IFRC, RCRC, urbz, FIPOI, dGPa.

The dossier explains the concept and the various stages of the project, allowing future users to imagine the future IFRC park together.
